Fraudulent Callers Impersonating the Day Reporting Center
The Wayne County Day Reporting Center (DRC) is issuing a warning regarding fraudulent phone calls and messages targeting Wayne County residents. Scammers are impersonating DRC staff and local law enforcement officials in an attempt to extort money from the public.
Residents have reported receiving calls and messages from individuals claiming to be representatives of the Wayne County Day Reporting Center. These scammers are demanding payment and, in some cases, have even offered to meet residents at the DRC location to collect money. They have also falsely claimed to work in coordination with local law enforcement agencies to add legitimacy to their demands.
The Wayne County Day Reporting Center does NOT charge any fees or money in connection with the supervision of cases. Any demand for payment purporting to come from the DRC is fraudulent.
These scammers are convincing. Be aware that fraudulent callers may:
- Know your name and home address
- Use the names of real local law enforcement officers to appear credible
- Reference well-known local locations, including the DRC itself
- Claim to represent or work alongside local law enforcement agencies
- Offer to meet you in person at the DRC to collect money
- Send text messages containing links that demand payment
What You Should Do:
- Do NOT send money to anyone claiming to be from the DRC.
- Do NOT click any links sent via text message demanding payment.
- If you receive a suspicious call or message, hang up and contact the Wayne County Day Reporting Center directly to verify whether the communication was legitimate.
- Report suspected scam calls to your local law enforcement agency.
